I don't think they have enough episodes\time to double up on exposition like that. I think it's safe to assume that next episode they will all know the stuff we saw through this episode, and move on from there.

It's not set in the same world. There is no connection other than some theme exploration, so nothing you need to know and no chance of spoilers for campaign 3. Except maybe in the cooldown where they talk about the theme.

Before you give up on the whole genre entirely, try something written more recently. The 90s was a hotbed for a very specific style of "chosen one" high fantasy that got old fast. I couldn't get through that series either. If you want suggestions, let me know.

Don't feel too bad. I was an English literature major, and I probably did that with at least 25% of the novels I was assigned. Life is too short for anyone to read some of that stuff. Skimming for quotes to support whatever random theory you think you can pull off in a weekend is classic.
