Reading Yoda: Dark Rendezvous lately, I get the feeling that the author was more or less ignoring the characterization of Yoda from the prequels, and just doing his OT personality.
He's eating swamp gumbo, whacking droids with sticks, back sassing the Jedi masters around him- it's perfect.

Respectfully- when George envisioned his version of the sequels, his version of Luke was a jaded recluse who'd become disillusioned with the Jedi.

This concept art was personally approved by George, and he was compared to Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse now.
