Got a good deal on HGST drives, 4x8TB raidz1, threw in another random 4TB drive I had laying around. Dual 40GbE Mellanox NIC, SAS HBA for the HGST drives. 12th gen i5 on 128GB of DDR4-3200. 4U case, but living on the floor until I buy the rack for it.
Photo of the system. The 4 HGST drives are mounted vertically on a 7-drive mounting spot, with a gap between each pair. The other drive is mounted horizontally on another bay. The SAS cable is routed with the help of a cut piece of perf board screwed into the case. The NIC and HBA have small fans zip tied to their heat sinks.
