Is it really good though? In my personal experience with a paid version I got all of the sleazy salesman and none of the antivirus, it didn't say anything on the two occasions it should have, windows defender was more reliable

I made the switch when my windows PC got a virus in february, it's always a grim reminder of how negative my windows experience is when I open up my work laptop and spend 10 seconds waiting for explorer to open

My latest "use case" is writing a launcher app for my tablet laptop where you execute apps by ostensibly drawing glyphs bound to some specific action, because I wanted something more ergonomic than an on screen keyboard, and graphical launchers are for the weak

Interesting! I never knew there was so much specialization, but I suppose it does make sense that workflows would evolve slightly differently depending on the medium. Thank you for the write up!

Startups like using hype languages because bootcamps produce large numbers of cheap, (questionably) able-bodied devs for them, whereas a Java dev with experience is more expensive

When I was looking for a job 90% of listings had Java in the name. The big company I'm working for now is no exception, to the point where any time I talk to a new team, Java is basically implicitly assumed to be the language of choice

I'm curious, how much did you use a guide? Most people I know go through Terraria basically getting coached by someone who knows the game, did you do that too or did you discover things organically?

Yeah, that's it. I was just wondering since I've been having a lot of fun toying around with the multitouch protocol on a touchscreen laptop and wanted to know if you had ever done anything with the API since I've found your taste in recreational programming very agreeable 🙂

Age, the need for backward compatibility, the simplicity of the API vs. the complexity of the problem... it's basically the Windows equivalent to taking POSIX + every feature from every WM/Compositor and making one huge event-based library out of it, combined with relics like hungarian notation

I'm reasonably sure that's the point of the platform, you create your own feed, so the default is just a bunch of random things that overlap with interests, I like it this way

Unfortunately it seems bluesky is sort of devoid of computer science people as of now, especially towards backend, so we may both be a little ahead of our time

For me, WW and NL have comparable nostalgia, but WW more for the soundtrack and NL for both soundtrack and gameplay. I still can't quite believe how unspeakably hard they went on NL night time hourly themes though. NH has some fun memories playing it during covid, but nowhere near the other two

Oh my, I did remember correctly! I recall finding your channel through the Coelacanth video for NL and having a fun time watching all your How-To-style videos... probably 8 years ago? I spend most of my time on computer science nowadays, but I'll be sure to catch up on some of your newer stuff 🙂
