- i tried to develop a unique silhouette to make the clans recognizable even in black and white
- i tried to emphasize practicality and function in the designs (or a purposeful rejection of it)

lan robes:
zhiju or daopao w/ zhaoshan
- straight hems only
- layered/ loose coats
- collar panel in white
- straight wide sleeves
- thin fabric, many layers
- lots of subtle embroidery
notes: cloud/ musical motifs, scholarly and airy clothing style, shows a focus on precision/patience

jin robes:
yuanlingshan
- round collars w/ studded belts
- brocaded fabrics
- gold and silver thread
- narrow skirt cut
- less gold fabric= lower rank
notes: peony/coin motif, formal robes w/ prominent emblems, robes reminiscent of government officials, ceremonial/ dueling based fighting style

nie robes:
hufu w/ bixi & banbi
- tight cut sleeves w/ gauntlets
- sleeveless coat
- visible pants/ ru skirt
- similar across genders
- braided cord & animal fibers
- cloaks/ armor/ sheathes added
notes: geometric motifs, square/diamond shape language, braids, cold weather clothes

jiang robes:
qujiu or zhiju w/ banbi
- curved or flat hems
- pants often visible
- worn one shouldered for archery
- zhongyi & banbi visible
- legs are free for swimming
- archery guard on one arm
notes: water/lotus motif, clothing is light and nonrestrictive, flexibility focused fighting style

wen robes:
zhiju w/ liangdang
-metal belt
-women wear ruqun or zaju chuishaofu
-sleeves have hidden ties
shoulders and liangdang are armored
sometimes worn w/o vest or w/ a closed vest
