Round-leaved Fluellen, Kickxia spuria, in an arable field near Kingston Bagpuize, Oxfordshire. Some of the plants had an unusually tubulate form of flowers (caused by Pelorism? - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelorism ) #WildflowerHour #botany
Tubulate form of round-leaved fluellen flowers alongside the more typical strongly zygomorphic, 2-lipped, with narrowly conical spur at base, with mouth completely closed by boss-like swelling on lower lip, flowers. The flowers are predominantly yellow with a purple upper lip. The plant is prostrate with hairy ovate leaves. Earth is visible under the plant. The Corallian Ridge survey team of the Oxford Flora Group found a particularly interesting arable field near Kingston Bagpuize in Oxfordshire this week. This is Small Toadflax, Chaenorhinum minus #WildflowerHour #botany

Layered ghost signs in Whitby, North Yorkshire #ghostsigns
The entrance to a brick built building. It was formerly a Methodist Chapel and has ‘Wesley Hall: 1901’ written above the entrance arch. The entrance is blocked by a moderately ornate iron gate with the name W.HAMOND writ large above it. W.Hamond was a maker and retailer of Whiby jet.

A primary feather of a golden eagle photographed against a light brown carpet. The brown speckling on white on the inner edge of the base of the feather is characteristic of this species. The rest of the feather is dark brown. The emargination of the primary is very obvious.

A memorial cairn to mark the rebuilding of the Inverness to Perth road. This followed the route of General Wade's military road, became the old A9, and is now part of National Cycle Route Seven. #cycling #Scotland

Unexpected opportunity to see this juvenile Willow Warbler, Phylloscopus trochilus, up close the other day as it recovered from flying into my living room window. It was fine and flew off after a few minutes; so delicate, so lovely. #birds

It is holding its beak open. The yellow tip of its dark upper mandible is also visible as is its white eye-ring. One foot is also shown under the bird.
