Today the Church commemorates St Augustine, Bishop of Hippo. "Behold, in order that we may love God, we have exhortation. Could we love Him, unless He first loved us? If we were slow to love, let us not be slow to love in return."

John McKay's new record, "Sixes and Sevens", is superb. It's a real new wave record, and would slot in right next to his work on "The Scream" and "Join Hands" by Siouxsie and the Banshees or peak-era Joy Division and New Order. Makes sense b/c tracks were recorded between 1980 and 1989. #Music

"They have removed the struggle to find anything. Book store owners and record store owners used to be oracles, in that way; you'd go in this dusty old place and they might point you toward something that would change your life. All that's gone." ~Tom Waits

If you check out J.K.'s recommended reading list (except for the Chinese and Indian holy texts), it doesn't look that much different from a modern Great Books syllabus. /5

The ur-hipster would have been 103 years old today.

Jack Kerouac was a mass of contradictions and conflicts. He claimed to be a free spirit and a rebel while living most of his life under the watchful eye of his mother. /1

Got my best Harris tweed coat secondhand. It fit perfectly, so I had to take it home. Still looks brand new. Quality endures.

Unfortunately, it's not the Al Green I was hoping for.
