Fun to read articles like this—thanks for sharing! I will admit, was hoping the author would mention Harmony Gold / Robotech as an early foray of serialized anime into the Western television market. Any idea how much reach Robotech had viewer-wise, compared to Pokémon and Dragonball Z?

Macfarlane reveals so many wonderful literary paths through his books. He also led me to Nan Shepherd's writings on the Cairngorms, and the singular Peregrine by JA Baker. Both recommended as well.

I would highly recommend "Waterlog" by Roger Deakin, if you haven't already read it! Beautiful memoir about swimming in nature. Found Deakin through Macfarlane. Looks like you had a wonderful swim!

At Los Bagels in Arcata, it’s a thing! Probably the best Jewish-Mexican bagelry I’ve ever been to.

I would recommend The Ladies of Grace Adieu by Susanna Clark. And if you like those stories, go for her other two books.
