As I recall, and I may be wrong, it has had brain surgery and is partly lame. I don't remember if it is blind.

I was about 12 and read the Hobbit in Danish. I've read it and LotR several times since in English, even heard them as audio books one time. I was afraid that the movies would replace my inner versions of characters and world, and I suppose it has. Difficult to say now. Not the Hobbit movie, though😬
