I grew up like you and have avoided this book until now because there’s a lot that I’d rather not relive. 1/4 of the way in and I’m glad I finally picked it up. Certain parts are difficult, but it’s quite moving. Sophie is a lovely character. Thanks for writing it!

I think big market and even occasionally successful teams can still fit so long as the success is fleeting and they’re otherwise generally ignored/eclipsed by more popular teams… NJ Devils, Seattle Mariners (this yr being an extreme outlier), and Atlanta Hawks also come to mind

San Diego Chargers, Tampa Bay Rays, and pre/post-Jordan Chicago Bulls all belong in this conversation as well

There was a Tigers reliever clearly having a full conversation with himself on the mound against the Mariners in their 15inning game the other day and it was weird AF to see

He later attended a comeback with the Rangers. Guess he never appeared in a game for them?

Following up on this question, what are schools talking about when they add a nearby school into their conference as a “travel partner”? Are schools able to save money by jointly negotiating with travel vendors or something similar?

Lifelong Episcopalian. We’re ritual heavy and doctrine light. There’s comfort in the familiarity and repetition of the liturgy but no one’s going to run you off for relating to it in your own way. It’s the doing. We’re drastically more chill than other denominations in this regard.

Saw them 10 or so years ago, and it was a memorable show only in that they never interacted with the audience other then than to say hello and goodbye. Just played straight through for 90min, got their money and left.
