Didn't we have a 10% tax for manufacturing companies in the 80s? I think it was even quite low for all companies before that. Our draw was a mix of EU market adjacency, an educated English-speaking workforce, and certainly our tax rates.

Libel laws are pretty strict in Ireland/UK and Conor McGregor tried to sue the only journalist who wrote a slightly scathing book about him.
Journalists here were never going to come down on him until he lost in court. There's a lot of regulation at play.
