One example of word choices that made me suspect the heavy use of a thesaurus. By the way, if you were confused by the use of "sanguine" here too, the usage here means "marked by eager hopefulness or confidently optimistic" (according to Merriam-Webster).

The only way I can see someone coming to this conclusion is if they think that reading only consists of taking in the words on a page. The act of interpreting those words seems to be of so little insignificance to the author that they didn't realize that's the most important part of reading.
