Yea, all of this is exactly why I only care about Hopes Byleth stuff in a vacuum compared to Houses which ultimately has more to offer.

purpose and belonging like they did in Houses is shown pretty clearly as Hopes shows without it, Byleth is left to stagnate as a person and just die if Jeralt is already dead.

Byleth already had a character arc in Houses.

Hopes deliberately takes it away because the catalyst for that arc happening, which is them being at Garreg Mach with a new line of work, is no longer possible.

We can talk about how Rhea was underutilized and whatnot all day and wish to improve it, but suddenly shifting full focus to her is not the move much as I adore her. Matter of fact, I don't understand how SS got labeled a church route to begin with

Eh....not really? Byleth is the main protag before the HLs are. SS at its core is about Byleth and their falling out with Edelgard and them gradually accepting they need to deal with her. Also Rhea said that she leaves everything in Byleth's hands in the cutscene before the TS so....

Rhea and Jeralt just bs'ing their way through that interaction is hilarious
