But if you've heard of it, the binturong is a feliform, related to civets. Meerkats are also feliforms which is news to me lmao

OK, so, feliformia is a suborder of canivora, and if you further split feliformia up, you can get a wide variety of "cat like creatures." Cats are just a single superfamily of feliforms, the rest contain vivirrids which include mongooses and hyenas, and herpestoids which include fossa and others.

Nope! Just convergent evolution doing it's thing. Most feline families aren't even cats, mostly mongoose shaped guys.
