Something to keep an eye on.

In case you’re wondering how we got to this particular train of thought from people who suddenly hate the strike, here’s how the argument slowly progressed and the goal posts got moved so far:
“We support voice actors striking for Al protections Some gacha characters are silent, it must be scheduling issues like Hoyo says. Hope they never recast them! Okay the silent actors are striking but it's only because of the recording studio, I refuse to believe it's Hoyo's fault. Still, don't recast anyone! Okay so the actors are striking Hoyo titles regardless of studio, but it's not Hoyo's responsibility to sign the interim, leave the company alone guys” So it's the developer's responsibility, but if you ask me it's wrong to force anyone to sign a union contract and become a union actor (I learned all about this a week ago and am now an expert) even if it provides AI protections. These actors are the mafia. This strike isn't just about Al protections - which Hoyo would never need to offer anyway - so it's not about Al protections and I do not support it. These actors are just lazy. It's totally okay that Hoyo recast these striking lazy actors and it's especially okay that this latest one treated it like a passing of the torch and has made no attempt to even communicate with the actor he replaced when doing so. Anyone expressing disappointment in this is a monster and bully. Fire all the striking actors.

"Mihoyo can't use AI even if they want to, it would be illegal" is an argument being presented to you by a community who recently argued passionately: "Mihoyo would never replace striking actors, that would be illegal - and the actors would be victims!"

They seem to have changed their mind since.
A reddit user replying to a post that says "I cannot imagine a deeper insult for a VA than having their role needlessly re-cast because they want VAs to not be replaced by AI. This is a petty, spiteful recasting." Their reply reads: Huh? Where did you hear this is what happened? If it were because she was striking this would be a lawsuit, and one she would win without even trying - it is highly illegal to fire and replace someone because they are striking. Hoyo may not be a US company, but the studio that records for them is and they are still expected to follow US law. On top of that, there is zero indication that Hoyo plans to use AI in their games. A reddit reply that reads: Hopefully not, so far they haven’t replaced any union voice actors, only non-union, that I know of. I think the reason why is because it is illegal to fire/replace a union member for striking, I don’t know exactly the specifics when it comes to non-union work.
