Yesterday, the Texas House Public Educ Comm heard testimony regarding HB 10 which would require posting the 10 Commandments in public school classrooms. Rep. John Bryant made a plea for fairness which I think everyone should hear. "That's not fair and that's not American." @robertdownen.bsky.social

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson Falsely Attributes Prayer to Thomas Jefferson - I have updated the post to reflect more information about who did write the prayer. Before Jefferson, Washington was credited with the prayer. However, neither president wrote it.

Yes, there is evidence he didn't. The prayer was written by someone else and included in the 1928 edition of the Common Book of Prayer.

Thanks to Brenda Thompson Schoolfield for her endorsement of Getting Jefferson Right. David Barton's supporters say that those who correct his history lessons are liberals. I'll go out on a limb and say Bob Jones is not a liberal school.

Historian John Fea: "Anyone who reads [Getting Jefferson Right] must come to grips with the untruths and suspect historical interpretations that Barton regularly peddles in his books, speaking engagements, and on his radio program. I have yet to read a more thorough refutation of Barton’s claims."
