Amazing creatures 🙂. Thanks for the info - I'd heard about the formic acid but assumed it was from the tubes that extend from their 'tail'. I can see the slit below their head in the photo.

Thanks Vanna. I couldn't believe my luck when I realised what it was!

Hi James. These were with the OM System 90mm macro. I previously used a Laowa 100mm macro on my Canon EF set up which was a great lens although all manual.

I've been waiting for the rain to fill mine up so I can finish the edges. Immediate impact on biodiversity! First pondskater a couple of days ago. Today - mosquito larvae, two water beetle species, a water boatman, damselflies and a Broad-bodied Chaser 😀. No plants yet so just a big puddle really!

It takes a few days to change but still a neat trick.

Hi Rosy 👋

Dorset WT just forwarded your email to me. Looks really interesting and I'll be in touch.

Yes you do. These are quite variable in colour and this one was particularly light. I do wonder whether things look different to flying insects, though, if they're able to see in uv. The colour match may not look right to us but may be spot on for passing bees and moths.

Hi Tom. Thanks for an idea for the moth. Moths aren't my strong point, but I think you might be right. It's definitely the right habitat.
