Weird obscure little AAF SDK archeology tidbit of the day... Why the hell is aafdump so slow? Oh, it reads a bunch of stuff literallty one byte at a time for no reason. Maybe half a reason? It seems afraid that reading a stream will fail part way through, and it […]

I've always found it a bit of a shame that Apple was always so belligerent to the "geekier" side of things because their history is full of interesting little tidbits and side stories that could have grown into something neat. In the 90's OSA (roughly speaking […]

Lockheed is running ads for Trump's "Golden Dome," and I'm not even sure which of the several layers of dystopian to complain about here.

Spoooooky. I guess my ISP is having a rager of a company halloween party or something. So I guess I'll just sit here in the dark and not watch Community reaction videos on YouTube.

My phone is giving me a Heat Advisory. And I dunno if this is about shitty AI, or bad data availability in light of the government shutdown, but stuff we were able to take for granted just don't work right any more.

It really is stunning how much time and effort and money Google has put into making search results useless. Searching for how to sort in an slang shader now generates a bunch of fucking useless text like a commented out line saying "// Perform sorting […]

I love that Prime Video has a database that doesn't handle nulls properly, so they list a bunch of actors' birthdays as being in the year 0001.

It's extra funny if you look up an actor that was in a time travel TV show.

It's still not a good idea to trust machine translation, no matter how much the AI maximalists hype up the idea that you don't need to bother learning a language. Or else you'll be eating Collapses with cabbage and dumplings with Bronze.

@klausfiend The render has made it to the scene in the coffee shop that you were in.

Is a movie. Is a first draft of a movie, but is a movie.

A Chrome ad about unauthorized AI. Google makes Chrome. And I am screaming. Thank goodness the grim chucklefucks ramming AI into everything see something to be concerned about in... every other AI?

Kids today would be absolutely baffled if you tried to explain to them that Adobe Premiere used to used be one computer program that ran as a single process, and that was it.

WTF does all this do? Dunno. Why is my computer getting hot? Dunno. Is all of this […]

Google reshuffling UI again for no reason, but it wants a lot of credit for it. HEY A THING YOU DONT USE HAS MOVED SLIGHTLY.

You can see I have "No apps 'yet.'" So you know that nothing I use has moved. But you need to have a modal popover interfering with what […]

Anyhow, this needs some cosmetic tweaks to be a bit more obvious, and some performance changes. But after bloody minded hacking all over the audio buffer handling, there can now be audio waveforms on the clips in the timeline.

I probably shouldn't take "I've been so lazy about committing that this commit is now too large for Github to be willing to display" as a twisted badge of honor that means I've been productive. But hey, you catch the ego puffery where you can get it.

I have way more important things that I should be doing. But I finally have a (really terrible) bluescreen/greenscreen keyer working in my janky little node graph compositing/video editing #vfx app that I've been playing with.

Admittedly, it's not "Avatar."

I've been picking away at this for like a year, and this was the week I finally ticked over 90% of the scenes in my rough cut.

I know dunking on AI is punching down, but seriously, this is what Google ruined search to push.

"Block-1, specifically the Block II" is a nonsense statement. But the source it cites for the nonsense statement is the wiki for a *fictional* Japanese light novel […]

Here's something a little counterintuitive. CBP arrests are down. ICE arrests are way up, and CBP has had resources pulled away from regular duties to support ICE, but they aren't logging as many of their own arrests.

Ironically, this is what "Open Borders" […]

The fact that MS wanted this to be the thing on my screen after an update sort of implies that they had surprisingly little faith that the update would in-fact complete.

"Hey, if we get this software working well enough that the update can actually finish […]

Anybody else seeing like completely barren shelves, or did I just happen to go to the local Ralph's at the moment they happen to be doing some sort of major reorganization?

It never ceases to annoy me when Google literally *only* shows me one thing as my YouTube recommendations because I watched something from this channel recently, therefore it's all I'll ever want to watch forever.

This is what billions of dollars of AI R&D has […]

Here's a somewhat pointless but satisfying nerd-ception moment. I finally got around to adding Blackmagic BRAW support to my video player program. Which means I can view (most of) the raw footage from my own movie in it. Including one of the moments where I have […]
