The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

The LA Times family today lost a great editor, wonderful mentor, visionary and champion of diversity. Richard was also my friend, always cheerful, always encouraging, always engaging. We'll miss you.

Excited to share that I'm in my last semester of Johns Hopkins University's MA in Writing program. It's been four years since I've started, taking one course at a time while working. A shout-out to anyone who has ever endured the rigors of graduate level writing courses, especially workshops.
