This year for Banned Books Week, I teamed up w @taradairman.bsky.social & Kellye Crocker, my co-leaders of the Colorado chapter of AABB, to showcase some of what we've been up to in Colorado this year, as well as why everyone should be thinking about banned books and some next steps for our state.

Anyway here's something else that also has all of those things:

This is the (windstruck) face of a woman who just stood behind the Governor of Colorado as he signed into law a Freedom to Read bill that places stronger protections against book bans for public schools within her state.

Did I get to hold my book for the first time yesterday? Yes.

Did I immediately take her to the botanic gardens so I could stare lovingly at her during golden hour? Also yes.

So what you are telling me is that my mom not only bought teenage me a Christmas gift that would eventually spark my obsession with sprayed edges but that she bought me the book that would eventually spark EVERYONE'S obsession with sprayed edges.

This is such a cool story!

More books I inhaled in one sitting: IF NOT FOR MY BABY by Kate Golden (aka the Hoziermance) coming out this August. I curled up in bed early last night to read and then suddenly it was 2am and I had reached the end because I could not stop. Romance fans, keep an eye out for this one this summer! 📚

Not sure how to write a letter of support?

That's okay—here's an example! It can be as simple or elaborate as you want it to be, and clicking send doesn't have to feel scary. Remember, numbers matter here, so what's important is that you're sending it at all! (4/4)

Thank you!

Look at all the gorgeous books being released into the wild today (especially those debuts—I see you, my 2025 family!).

Remember, if you encounter a new release in the wild, be sure to bring it home with you and offer it lots of love, care, and good reviews.

New releases love a review.
