I'm doing my first 50k challenge for November. New challenges can be intimidating, but they're also exciting. I've prepped a lot the last few weeks. Now, I'm ready to dive in.

A vanilla by itself is solid too. Sometimes for the holidays, I buy beans and make ice cream from scratch. Vanilla deserves more credit.

So music helped you get in touch with the feelings in a scene. I get that. Cool.

I think music is distracting too, all sound really. That's why I just used the noise-canceling option on my headphones. I marvel at the idea that people can listen and write. Sounds completely wild to me.

I haven't gone to one yet, but I'd like to. Luckily, there are 3 in my area. I think I'm going to try each and see which is the best fit. But I think mostly, I'd like to make writer friends, so it would be nice if there were some attendees similar in age. We'll see.

Was it good? I read For the Wolf and For the Throne. I think I like the first one more than a lot of people. Adding Foxglove King to my TBR. 📚

Nice. Is your writing group helpful?

I'm boring. I use noise canceling headphones often without any music at all.

murmured, etc. There a lots of options. But at the same time, sometimes softly is the right choice.

Don't banish adverbs, just examine their use closely and replace them when it feels right.

I think the advice is more about pushing you to use strong descriptive language. Instead of deleting your adverbs, look at your sentences and see if you can replace them with other words.

For example, instead of saying he said something softly, you could say he whispered, used a hushed voice,

Re: Describe a character from your #wip using junk food.

My MMC starts off abrasive and scary, so he's probably sour gummy worms.

By the end of the story, much of his rough exterior has been removed and his motivations are clear. He's resilient and sweet like a gummy bear.

I've been enjoying Monster recently. Parasyte is another favorite of mine.
