Some personal news, as they say, and some good media news for a change: the quarterly print magazine I ran for four years is back from the dead, after the pandemic nearly killed it. I’m not at the helm anymore but it’s in good hands and I couldn’t be happier.

This year, I spoke to a lot of people about fire — the way it shapes our lives now and how it will continue to do so in the future. I got out on the ground as much as I could to listen and learn. Now I’m slowly gathering together some of those voices and experiences for a story coming soon.

These are my words. As I say, I never do this. But I’m a parent and I can’t imagine the terror of the children in Gaza today/tonight — and that is unequivocally wrong. I don’t pray, but my heart is there 💔

Today, I got to share a few things I’ve learned about solutions journalism with my colleagues and while it was def out of my comfort zone, I’m happy for the chance to pass on teachings I’ve been lucky enough to receive. Thanks to Solutions Journalism Network for support and guidance

After writing about the rematriation of the Wilps Ni’isjoohl pole, I wanted to see it again, now raised in the Nisga’a museum — and for my 5-yr-old to stand in its presence. Again, t’ooyaksiỳ n̓isim̓ to the Simgigat and Sigidimhaanaḵ’ for the honour of sharing its story.

Me realizing my great idea to go film a speech on the land may have been awesome in theory, but choosing to go to my favourite local waterfall wasn’t the smartest choice

This weekend, I was seated in two feast halls, on different nations’ territories. I am humbled by and grateful for the warmth and welcome from both — misiyh, t’ooyaksiỳ n̓isim̓

Just back from an extraordinary trip to Nisga’a lands, bearing witness to a powerful ceremony and celebration and sitting in the feast hall. Truly grateful to Wilps Ni’isjoohl, the community of Laxgalts’ap and the Nisga’a Nation.

Waking up to this view this morning was pretty special, especially because I had my 5-yr-old with me

Reporting today, on Lake Babine Nation territory. This little griz caught a couple of salmon while we were there. Water levels were really low, temps high and fish populations not doing so well. But he seemed pretty pleased with his catch

New on here, hi!

Been watching drought and spent a bit of time today in a wetland. Felt good to get soaked! Far less bugs than there would normally be — pleasant but got me thinking of ecological knock-on effects like birds, bats, amphibians etc. All the while my 5-yr-old had us hunting dragons
