Sharing an exciting little writing thing:
Six weeks ago, I entered writing competition number who-the-heck-knows-at-this-point. I was assigned to write a ghost story, a genre I never write in. ("I don't write scary stories" is a direct quote from me that weekend.) But I got some encouragement & rallied & ended up writing a little 500-word story that I was pretty proud of, regardless of whether it advanced or not- but tonight the results posted & I placed FOURTH & advanced to write again this weekend! This is measurably one of my very best showings. Feeling kinda proud.
