In states like Florida, policies such as the Stop WOKE Act present significant challenges to educators seeking to teach a comprehensive, culturally relevant curriculum. Censorship policies restrict the ability for educators to engage in discussions about race, identity, & historical events.

In the field of music education, culturally responsive teaching plays a necessary role in fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment. Through CRT, we ensure that students of all backgrounds can see their identities and experiences reflected in the materials they engage with.

As we observe Black History Month, it’s crucial to reflect on the ways in which we teach & honor the diverse cultural legacies that have shaped our society. Black History is American History, & it’s important that we acknowledge how Black contributions have influenced the facets of American culture.
