Sounds like a bad company bad job problem TBH. And that policy is producing horrible books and shows.

You seem to have a very flawed definition of the word love. To take something that someone worked incredibly hard on and put blood, sweat and tears into and just dismiss it out of hand (especially without fully reading it) is awful. You are dismissing the author’s labor of love.

Seems like you’re looking for a conflict from the first line since my hook worked just fine 😈😂

I feel like that says a lot about our instant gratification culture and the general dumbing down of humanity on certain countries. And the crap it produces is agony.

Yes but that’s usually just the first step on the path that leads to writing novels or screenplays/scripts. It’s the rite of passage many writers have to endure to get the recognition and publicity they need to keep going. Rejecting those people based on a paragraph is horrible.

This kind of thing is why there are so many stories about madly successful authors who kept the piles of their rejection letters.

My point is that writing a good hook is fairly easy, but it’s a sometimes a struggle to keep it interesting for an additional 300 pages. So basing whether you are going to give a manuscript a chance solely based on the hook is a flawed concept. Especially based on a single paragraph.

The reverse could also be true, JS. The first paragraph is a banger and then the rest of the story has no substance.

There are plenty of literary classics out there with bad or boring starts. It’s bad faith not to give the story a chance to get going. Not everyone has professional editors available.

Like any good game of Monopoly, it’s time to flip the table in a fit of indignant rage. 🤨

Do you mean Foxford University? 🧐😅❤️

This is garbage. Harsh but true. If people in the past had stuck to any of this nonsense we would not have many of the literary classics we enjoy. It’s like asking a stripper to just rip everything off in the first five seconds or get off the pole.

Well, the best way to prove your point is to gear up and go show them how it’s done. I’m sure you can pack 80 lbs up a ladder and not pee your pants when you have to hike through rough terrain into a fire. Get to it.

You didn’t use the force for personal gain did you? 🤔😅 JK Glad you’re ok.
