In that case, have you tried:
* The Cyberiad by Stanislaw Lem (Kandel translation)
* The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe

Two of my favorite books in the world. Both are "literary sci fi." Cyberiad is short, BotNS is both long and somehow much bigger on the inside.

Have you read any of the Culture books by Iain M Banks? If not, I'd recommend them, starting with The Player Of Games.
