"Together" (american, 2025)

A great way to end this month's serie, with a banger ! Loooved this film, the body horror is immaculate, with two great perfomances. I strongly recommend it.

"Companion" (american, 2025)

A way funnier watch than what I expected... a couple's getaway with friends turns dramatic when a robot, one of them, starts murdering them and gaining some form of prescience. A tad bit disappointed in how the ending was wrapped up but I still had a great time.

"Zana" (kosovar, 2019)

Another film that's more "drama" rather than "horror". The depressing story of a depressed woman on her depressing search to get (not) pregnant. Very illuminating when it comes to kosovar countryside culture and their take on gender (women's) roles, and the leftovers of war.

"Barbaques" ("Some Like it Raw", french, 2021)

More of a comedy than a horror movie despite its premise, a very french comedy: failing butcher couple turned cannibals by accident end up hunting vegans (most of whom are cliché despicable assholes) for profit. Very fun (but very french).

"The Monkey" (american, 2025)

The wild and bloody ride of twin brothers trying to deal with the """accidental""" killings of a cursed mechanical toy monkey, from their childhood years to adulthood. This one was lots of fun and I enjoyed it greatly ! Another banger.

"Bring Her Back" (australian, 2025)

I haven't hated someone quite as much as I've hated the foster mom in this film. A brilliant but bleak story about pathological grief, possession, and foster care violence. Not something to watch to brighten up your mood but an excellent film nonetheless.

"Good Boy" (american, 2025)

I was ready to cry all the tears in my body for this film but thankfully that didn't happen, but it was a near thing. To make this from the POV of the dog works wonders, and there were a few scares that took me by surprise - and it's been a long time since that happened!

"Alien: Earth" (american, 2025)

Being a fan of the films franchise there was NO way I was skipping this series & I can't say I'm disappointed. The xenomorphs could've been handed with a bit more finesse, sure, but the other creatures & handling of the "hybrid" children characters make up for it.

Bram Stoker's "Dracula" (american, 1992)

Yes, I know, it's a crime I haven't seen this sooner. What matters is that I got a good old gothic time when watching this. Despite their horrible attempts at romanian/british/german accents. AND I got to see the love of my life Monica Bellucci 😍

"MadS" (french, 2024)

This film absolutely did not go the way I thought it would but it was still a wild ride. Everything was filmed in one long continuous shot which makes it cooler, despite its visibly limited means of making. If you like films like "the Crazies" you might like this one as well.

"HIM" (american, 2025)

Very surprised this film hasn't been talked about more! It addresses so many topics: hypermasculinity, toxic mindsets in high level sports, drugs in sports, black bodies in white businesses... all wrapped up in a tense, bloody and colorful show. Looooved the explosive ending.

"Tebusan Dosa" (the Redemption of Sin, indonesian, 2024)

TBH this had more the feel of a thriller with spooky elements. A bit slow to get moving and a few unecessary scenes but the story is good.

"Gakkô no Kaidan" (Haunted School or School Ghost stories, japanese, 1995)

Absolutely perfect for the season, the exact amount of cute and spoopy for a lighter Halloween vibe. Lots of references to classic japanese school ghost/urban legends. Very sweet.

"Le Vourdalak" (french, 2023)

This film was such a nice surprise, a little gem ! Beautiful costuming, lovely ambiance, very skillful puppetry that makes you forget that what you're watching is... well, a creeepy puppet. Loved it !

"the Devil's Bath" (german-austrian, 2024)

Often presented as a horror film, this is more of a bleak and very depressing period piece. It has a few creepy shots but nothing warranting it the horror label, imo. A good film still.

"V/H/S Halloween" (american, 2025)

Once again a mixed grab bag of good and not so good horror short films. Some pretty good but nothing good enough to stay in my mind.
October 13, 2025 at 8:03 PM
"Evil Dead Rise" (american, 2023)

A fun gory fest, and that's pretty much all there is to it. Very entertaining. My only critic would be that they relied more on CGI than practical effects, in opposition to Sam Raimi's 2013 film, which is a shame. It looses what could've made it way more icky.

"Lair of the White Worm" (british, 1988)

A very campy and funny folk-horror-ish film. A nice and needed palate cleanser after the emotional devastation that was the Long Walk.

"The Long Walk" (american, 2025)

I'd loved the book so there was no way I was gonna pass this one, and it didn't disappoint. It is, however, extremely bleak and depressing 🙃 But it is a good film, definitely horror even if not the jumpscare type. All my love for those boys! And the doomed yaoi!

"The McPherson Tape" (amercian, 1989)

As it is one of the first found footage horror movies (if not THE first alien ff), it gets regularly recommended. Sadly, the alien design leaves to be desired and it just takes away all semblance of tension the rest of the film could've wrangled.

"Sewu Dino" (indonesian, 2023)

A pretty straightforward indonesian curse story, nothing too groundbreaking. It was alright.
October 5, 2025 at 1:31 PM
"Historia de lo Occulto" (or History of the Occult, argentinian, 2020)

A short but gripping film about unveiling the magical evil behind political machinations. There's an ever present, growing dread about what will be uncovered that keeps you on your toes.

A fine film !

Spoopy month horror watch thread !

"Caveat" (irish, 2020)
Slow paced, cold & quiet. Everything is dirty, abandoned & in disrepair, which sets for an uneasy watching mood. The closer to the ending the more frights you get but I was hoping for a little bit more... nevertheless, a good experience.
October 4, 2025 at 9:58 AM
Sporadically gonna start recommending horror films again (very sporadically). This week, I offer you these BANGERS: 28 Years Later (2025), Daddy's Head (2024) and Smile 2 (2024) !
