It "will require"?

"Will require"?

Will it? Really, will it?

Metallica, 1985, Ride the Lightning tour, in a bar with a "crowd" of maybe 30, W.A.S.P. and Armored Saint opening. Still the highlight show of my life.

I also have the choice to maybe try to learn something from you -- someone whose work I enjoy and respect.

That's a lot of guessing and vibes in that story. It reads like a pitch or a rough draft. I'll wait until the author has some evidence and facts before giving it much (any?) weight.

They told us last year that they were going to do this. No one is shocked or surprised. But also, no one's made any forward thinking proposals for how to oppose such lawlessness. "Bipartisan solutions" and "moar lawsuits!"aren't up to the task and are doomed to failure.

In the world of Russ Vought's post-Constitutionalism and the related Red Caesar movement, D's "leverage" in Congress over budgets and the debt ceiling are completely irrelevant.

Why is every analysis of this sort that I read *at least* two steps behind the Trump/Musk/Vaughn strategy? It demonstrates a frightening lack of understanding of their project and its tactics.
February 7, 2025 at 4:21 PM
I get the premise, and it's a good start, but the piece seems half done, lacking a conclusion, a prescription. What do you propose folks do? What should people in the boonies outside of cities do? What should homebound, or disabled, or elderly people do? Teenagers?
February 6, 2025 at 11:46 PM
This is bland. Bring the Senate to a halt. Deny *all* UC. Physically blockade the Dept of Labor (Teamsters maybe?). Get arrested. Get Musk arrested. Milquetoast pronouncements like this do nothing but infuriate your voters who are watching a literal coup in real time while you tweet.
February 6, 2025 at 6:23 PM
Agreed! So what are you doing today? GO LAY ACROSS THE TRACKS!
February 4, 2025 at 8:39 PM
I only don't because I have a physical book fetish and lots of really good used bookstores in my little town!

Milque-fucking-toast, Ms. Warren.

I wonder what the generational reset time is for things like the lessons of history? It seems now that most of the eyewitness are dead, much of the world has forgotten the lessons of the early 20th century rise of fascism in Europe.

I can imagine a 9-0 SCOTUS ruling against this. I can also imagine Trump ignoring it completely and just doing whatever he wants regardless. Can't you? And then what? That's what matters. And then what?
January 23, 2025 at 7:54 PM
It will just be ignored. Trump will call it an illegal order. His executive branch appointees and loyalists will simply refuse to "accept documents issued by State, local, or other governments or authorities purporting to recognize United States citizenship" of people designated in his EO.
January 23, 2025 at 7:28 PM
Um, well ... Judas?

(Youre right though)
January 22, 2025 at 2:59 AM
Footnote: While technically correct that it has not been repealed, it has been *reinterpreted*, and that works just fine for Trump.
January 20, 2025 at 9:01 PM
And after SCOTUS issues a stay, and Trump ignores it, is there any penalty for that? Or is it an immune "official act"?
January 20, 2025 at 8:44 PM
I keep seeing this take and have to wonder if the premises that *made* it true in the past are still true as of today. Trump owns SCOTUS, and any executive branch functionary who refuses to comply with his wishes will just be fired and replaced with a loyalist. Am I cynical or a realist?
January 20, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Thanks for the history lesson. But now that all those "norms" and "rules" no longer exist, what can we expect moving forward under the new order?
January 20, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Nice of you to offer to defend him pro bono.
January 20, 2025 at 4:28 PM
Clearly, yes, because "norms" or some obsolete shit like that.
January 20, 2025 at 4:25 PM
So what you're saying is "it can't happen here". Is that right? Why does that sound so familiar?
