He designed factories and warehouses in the Exchange District, plus apartment buildings, churches, and houses. Bellhouse is noteworthy for several surviving designs from Winnipeg’s early years, particularly his work for Winnipeg’s wealthy in the Armstrong’s Point and Crescentwood neighbourhoods.

Winnipeg’s rich collection of hand-painted wall ads date back to the early 1880s. Over a century and a half later, the businesses and brands advertised on the sides of buildings remain. Explore the Ghost Signs of the Exchange District in Winnipeg on this tour with Matt Cohen, Urban Archaeologist!

📖 The Fortune Block was built by early Winnipeg real estate developer Mark Fortune in 1882. In 2016 Winnipeg businessman John Pollard purchased the Fortune Block and the next-door Macdonald Block and rehabilitated them for residential and commercial mixed-use.

The historic early 20th century pumping station has been rehabilitated with much of its machinery preserved. Two mid-rise residential and commercial buildings have been added. Please note we cannot guarantee that all parts will be accessible.

First time in the chapel of St. Paul's College, really like how the mosaic on the exterior of the body of the chapel reappears inside where the ambulatory and entrance vestibules are.
