We might be 180 years old, but we know how to adapt to trends—and set them. Women have counted on WPA since 1845 because we evolve to meet their needs, providing innovative, evidence-based services and programs and delivering many “firsts” along the way.

1 in 3 of the women we serve at WPA are survivors of intimate partner violence.

We accompany our clients to court, visit jails, and sit at kitchen tables to make sure survivors have the advocacy, housing, and resources they need to heal and rebuild.

Through our work, we meet mothers who’ve lost years with their kids because their survival put them on a path into the system. We see women retraumatized by a process that should protect them.

With enough support, we can keep more families together and put more survivors on the path to justice.
For many women, relationships are a pathway into the criminal legal system.

Intimate partner violence increases the risk of poverty and homelessness, as well as the likelihood of substance use and crimes related to survival.

3 out of 4 women incarcerated in prisons and jails report experiences of intimate partner violence.

Instead of getting support, protection, or a path to healing, too many are arrested, prosecuted, and locked away, separated from their children.

In a world where women are beaten down by systems, healing becomes an act of resistance and liberation.

World Mental Health Day is about breaking the stigma and bringing attention to the importance of mental well-being. When women have a safe space and trauma-informed support, healing can begin.

Connecting to loved ones should not come with a cost.

Beginning in August, people who are incarcerated in New York state prisons will no longer have to pay for phone calls. This change will relieve the financial burden placed on incarcerated New Yorkers and bolster connections to support systems.
