Netflix is not the lesser of two evils. It is probably more anti-creative, anti-cinema than Ellison is.

DC Metro has the best system for commuters in the US. But the actual map within the DC city limits is still lackluster.

Georgetown, Union Market, H St Corridor, etc. not having any direct stops that are within 10min walking distance is still absurd.

yeah we’re not gonna make it four years without a breakdown of society

winning the primary was the impressive feat. he had a bigger win than Adams had four years ago by almost 12%.

eh, fine. I just don't think it's that massive of a story that a Rush Hour 4 is happening. WB was open to licensing it out so some studio would pick it up.
November 25, 2025 at 8:38 PM
I think Ellison would have done this eventually without Trump. If Ellison never bought Paramount, sure this doesnt happen.

But I don't think Ellison cared about Ratners past as a blocker.

I think the biggest blocker for him is the fact that Chan/Tucker are going to demand 100m combined at least.
November 25, 2025 at 8:31 PM
my assumption is that if Tucker/Chan are fine with Ratner returning, then this would happen.

If they actually were never going to want to work with him and are only doing it now because of Trump, that would be a story.

but I think this was inevitable and Trump just accelerated it.

I agree Ratner has been a blocker but even last year, there was reports of this pitch with Ratner attached. Trump obviously pushed it to make it happen but I think this could have happen still even with Ratner without Trump eventually.
Will a ‘Rush Hour’ Sequel Resurrect Brett Ratner?
Multiple studios have been approached about the next installment of the successful action comedy franchise. But getting it made would mean working with a filmmaker who hasn’t shot a feature since he w...

*sorry, last year. We did get a 150m budget Happy Gilmore 2 this year which no one also complained was a losing bet.
November 25, 2025 at 8:18 PM
we just had a massive opening weekend of a film that is a sequel to a film that is based off a hit broadway show that is prequel/reimainging of a 1939 film that is based off a 1900 book.

Hollywood trying to milk decades-old IP is status quo. The ROI on this is better than people think.
November 25, 2025 at 8:18 PM
ok but if Trump never said anything and Paramount decided otherwise make a RH4, it wouldn't be that shocking of an idea.

Netflix spent 150m on BHC4 and HG2. Making Rush Hour 4 is align with these long-gap sequels of 80s/90s IP.
November 25, 2025 at 8:14 PM
We got a 150m Beverly Hills Cop this year on Netflix and no one made a big deal of saying it lost Netflix a shit-ton of money.

Even 200m for RH4 is not the worst idea in the world. The overseas numbers will be much bigger time around and its a valuable IP for any streaming platform.

This M&A shouldn't be happening in the first place but if it will happen, Comcast is the best option of these three.
November 21, 2025 at 6:29 PM
Comcast is the best suitor. Paramount has too many idiots at the top and Netflix is a soulless digital void that will destroy the WB theatrical division and dilute HBO offering.

Comcast can absorb this and actually create not ruin things while forcing competition with Disney/Netflix.

Where I get worried is more about how this will cause people to misunderstand policy effects.

If a rezoning makes housing more available, such that household formation increases, that is a policy success!

But! If you look at "housing as percent of income" it will probably go *up*.

if the Fed doesn't cut in December, we may end the year in the red.

correct; you’re not going to get good data on it. you’re making a assumption that there’s high interest in a under sample population.

given how every Trump election has gone, i do think Dems need to consider making more assumptions like this to win in a general. it’s a risk but needed to win.
November 16, 2025 at 3:23 AM
you’re looking at this the wrong way.

Epstein main valve is with disengaged voters. you’re never going to get good data on this because by definition these people are very inactive in most politics.

you’re making a educated bet that making this an issue swings those voters towards Dems
