BREAKING! For years, we worked to drive prison telecom Securus (aka Aventiv) into bankruptcy. Well, this week, its owner, Platinum Equity, did it out of court, simply bowing out, waving the white flag, and handing it over to lenders after defaulting on $1.6Bn in debt. Stay tuned for what this means.

Too many have struggled to afford communication with their loved ones, forcing impossible decisions. And 87% of those carrying this burden are women, disproportionately women of color, like Martha Wright Reed, whose grandson was incarcerated.

The correctional telecom market is a $1.5 billion industry. All three of the largest prison telecom providers are owned by private equity firms.

Securus is owned by Platinum Equity, ViaPath by American Securities, and ICSolutions by HIG Capital.
