These images are BigGAN outputs, except I modified it to be garbage and abstract + tileable.
FWIW, BigGAN was created in 2018, and was trained on ImageNet - basically 1 million stock photos - and imho is from the era before AI images became problematic (e.g. there's no scraped art in ImageNet).

I don't normally do stuff like this, and the process was really weird. Basically a collage of a few weird textures which I edited and stuck together. Ingredients:

Agree... can be helpful for custom textures! Kinda tricky to get 2D assets which aren't garbage though (transparency issues + no animation), and 3D is pretty low quality, but both of these are improving...
just wish there were modern open-source models with more ethical training data :(
