It's just too mundane to talk about I think. I'd rather read conversation about a new and little-understood technology than a bunch of people saying "it's bad to hate poor people actually."

And when I read fiction I'm not really picturing anything. Other people might have a mental image of what a character looks like, but I generally don't.

I think my "seeing" is limited because of you ask me to picture an apple, it doesn't necessarily have any detailed features. Like if you ask what color it is, I don't refer back to my picture (because it doesn't have a color), I have to decide after the fact what color it is.

The thing that drives me nuts about the "Latinx" stuff is that people talk as if that demographic is a monolith. "Most Latinos don't like Latinx" yeah and most English speakers don't like they/them. It's almost as if queer and gender non confirming people are a minority in every culture.

That's just not a reasonable position for most people, especially Americans, to have. It only makes sense if you're putting yourself in the shoes of someone else and taking on what you imagine their response to be (eg "idgaf, I'm being bombed, the US can rot for all I care").

It's an epistemological reflex that I could see myself falling into in the past, but it can lead to some weird outcomes, like all these people replying basically, "If the US is going to bomb other countries, it doesn't matter whether Americans have rights or not."
