Lifelong Marylander, radicalized by George W. Bush. Anti-fascist environmentalist. I grow veggies and native flowers, make plein air oil paintings and other art, play indie TTRPGs, and go to Phish shows.
Here is the #subject of the #painting. I never quite captured the #reflections in the #lake, and didn’t even attempt to represent the #submergedaquaticvegetation poking through the #surface of the #water. Still focusing on #simplification, #drawing, and #color mixing at this point.

The result after several hours on-site and dropping it face down while packing up. I’ve vacillated between altering work done #enpleinair to learn from mistakes & leaving it as an #artifact of a moment. Decent improvement here, but perhaps the #lesson could’ve been learned via a new piece instead.

Here’s #pleinair #oilpainting (actual) #5 in its final form. I was staying at #timberlinelakecampingresort in #newgretnanj to see #phish in #atlanticcitynj. It’s another #painting that I corrected extensively #instudio.

My wife and #dog were there with me at #assateaguenationalseashore while I was #painting, and she got this #photo of him being patient as ever with me at #work in the #background.

This was the view from my #easel when I started. I omitted the figures to focus on the larger shapes. Clearly, the #sand has far less #yellow in it. Thanks to the #SalisburyUniversity #art #student who stopped to say hello and offer encouragement.

#pleinair #oilpainting five. What better opportunity to get some #practice in, than a day at the #beach? This #drawing was more simple, of course. Felt good abt capturing the #haze on the #horizon, but oversaturated the #colors.

Here was the result after the initial #session. Clearly, the #studiowork is doing the heavy lifting.

The #subject is the side of our #garage along with some of the #spring #flowers in our #backyard.

This was my third #pleinair #oilpainting after quite a bit of adjustment #instudio. It’s my first #framedpainting, and it was a #fourthanniversary #gift for my wife.

There’s certainly room for improvement. Based on the studies I completed over the winter and YouTube research, I know I need to work on drawing, values, and color mixing more efficiently.

Here’s what I was trying to capture. Next to a bench on the Indian River Bay, west of the boat ramp at Holt’s Landing State Park in Dagsboro, DE.

While I’ve practiced #art more or less seriously over the years, #oilpainting #enpleinair caught my attention early ‘21 & has helped me enjoy working & #creating like never before.

I obtained a #Frenchboxeasel in ‘20, & figured I may as well put it to use. Here it is at my 2nd #pleinair attempt.
