This drawing is a sequel to “The Forgotten Gardens” where we have a very curious cat who has wandered into an abandoned, seemingly derelict old English garden - a garden that appears to be haunted and more than a little spooky. As the cat carefully tiptoes through overgrown weeds and grasses it can't shake the feeling of being constantly watched - but by whom…..or what? The looming topiary in the foreground, shaped like a giant cat, seems particularly interested, but that can't be...right? I've always loved old ornate ironwork, weathered gates, gardens left to their own devices, strange topiary...and all things eccentric. And of course cats. Moody and atmospheric settings are hugely engrossing to draw - much more so than bright sunny days when everything's so very unmysterious (ho hum). This was based on a vague, fleeting image that darted through my mind whilst drowsily listening to Erik Satie's 'Gnossiennes'.
