New Google Meet links when changing recurrence or start time of recurring Calendar events
### What’s happening To create a more consistent and secure meeting experience, we're changing what happens when you edit recurring Google Calendar events. Previously, when users modified the start time or recurrence of recurring events and applied the change to "This and following events," the remaining events used the original Google Meet link. Moving forward, when users modify the start time or recurrence of a recurring event for "This and following events," the remaining events will automatically generate a new, unique Meet link. The original event series will keep the original Meet link. All properties of the Meet conference (for example the host, cohosts, access restriction, recording) are preserved for both Meet links. This change ensures each new recurring event series gets its own distinct and secure Meet link, which prevents the unintentional reuse of meeting links across separate Calendar events. This is one of multiple updates we’re making to create a more reliable experience for using Meet with Calendar events. ### Getting started * **Admins:** There is no admin control for this feature. * **End users:** There is no end user setting for this feature. Visit the Help Center to learn more. ### Rollout pace * This feature is available now. ### Availability Available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts ### Resources * Google Workspace Admin Help: Manage Meet settings * Google Help: Add or remove a Meet conference from event * Google Help: Create a recurring event * Google Workspace Updates  Blog: Enhancing meeting privacy for copied Calendar events

###  What’s changing Single-sign on with custom OpenID Connect profiles is now generally available. With this capability, admins have the option to set up a custom OpenID Connect (OIDC) profile for single sign-on (SSO) with Google as their service provider. OIDC is a modern authentication layer built on top of the OAuth 2.0 protocol and verifies a user's identity without exposing their password to the applications they are accessing. OIDC enables secure, seamless authentication across various platforms, including web, mobile, and cloud environments. With this update, admins have more secure options to configure SSO for their organizations. Previously, only OIDC with pre-configured Microsoft Entra ID profile was supported in addition to SAML. ### Getting started * **Admins:** This feature will be OFF by default and SSO profiles can be assigned to user groups or organizational units. Analyze large-scale .csv files in Google Sheets with a new direct-to-BigQuery import
### What’s changing We're making it easier than ever to analyze massive datasets by more seamlessly connecting Google Sheets and BigQuery. Now, users will see a new option to import .csv files containing datasets of any size directly to BigQuery while opening large .csv files from Drive or via the Data > Data Connectors menu flow in Sheets. From there, users can analyze the entire dataset using familiar Sheets features such as charts, pivot tables, and formulas via Connected Sheets. Previously, preparing a large dataset for analysis in Connected Sheets was often a multi-step process that could have involved relying on separate data pipelines, processing tools or multiple upload steps, all before the user could return to Sheets to start their analysis. This new connectivity expedites the analysis workflow by allowing users to directly ingest large datasets and begin analysis seamlessly, all within a single interface. This update will help users move from raw data to insights much faster. --- Part of the upload dialog when users choose to import a file to BigQuery via the Google Sheets interface --- Users with appropriate permissions will also see a new option to import with Connected Sheets when a file is too large for native upload to Sheets ### Getting started * **Admins:** This feature will only be available to users who have been granted permissions to write to BigQuery tables. Improving secondary calendar management with dedicated owners
### What’s happening To improve data governance, we’re changing how secondary calendar ownership is defined in Google Calendar. A secondary calendar is any calendar that you create or a group calendar that is shared with you. Previously, secondary calendars could only be managed at the organization level. Going forward, each secondary calendar will have a single, dedicated owner. When a new secondary calendar is created, the creator becomes the calendar owner. For existing secondary calendars, an owner will be automatically assigned based on the calendar’s permissions. The calendar will inherit the organizational policies from its owner. This provides fine-grained control for admins to define policies for each calendar, such as data regions or assured controls. Additionally, we’re introducing the ability to transfer secondary calendar ownership to another user in the same organization, through Google Calendar settings (for end users) or the Admin console (for admins). This is especially helpful when a calendar owner changes teams or leaves the organization, to ensure the calendar remains associated with the appropriate owner. --- How the owner is shown in Calendar settings --- How the owner can be transferred from Calendar settings --- How the owner can be transferred in the Admin console ### Additional details The Google Calendar API has been updated to reflect these changes. Developers can retrieve the secondary calendar owner using the API for Calendars and CalendarList. In addition, we’ve added updates to ensure only the secondary calendar owner can delete the calendar, and that their access level cannot be downgraded as long as they are the owner. Please refer to the API release notes for additional information. ### Getting started * **Admins:** This feature will be ON by default and cannot be disabled. To help manage this transition, admins can now transfer the ownership of secondary calendars from one user to another directly in the Admin console. * **End users:** This feature will be ON by default and cannot be disabled. For existing secondary calendars, an owner will be automatically assigned based on the calendar’s permissions. End users who own a secondary calendar can transfer ownership to another user. ### Rollout pace * Users with personal Google accounts: Rolling out now * Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains: Extended rollout (potentially longer than 15 days for feature visibility) starting on December 3, 2025 ### Availability * Available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts

New AI-powered audio overviews for PDFs in Google Drive
### What’s happening We’re introducing AI-powered audio overviews for PDFs in Google Drive. This new Gemini for Google Workspace feature allows your users to instantly convert long, text-heavy PDFs—such as industry reports, contracts, or lengthy meeting transcripts—into a conversational, podcast-style audio summary. With just one click, a new audio file is saved directly to their Drive. This feature is powered by the same underlying technology as NotebookLM’s popular Audio Overview feature. --- In today's fast-paced environment, dedicating time to read long documents can be a significant challenge. Audio overviews solve this by allowing users to absorb critical information while they are multitasking. Users can listen to the summaries from anywhere they can access their Drive files, whether they’re commuting, working out, or doing chores. This feature can help your users: * **Boost efficiency** by allowing users to quickly grasp the main points of a long document in a two- to 10-minute audio summary, * **Improve accessibility** by providing an alternative format for consuming content, and * **Enhance preparation** by making it easier to quickly review materials before meetings or client presentations. Once the audio overview is generated on a desktop, the user receives an email notification that the file is ready. The audio file is automatically saved to a new "Audio overviews" folder in their Drive, which they can then access from any mobile or desktop device. _Please note: At launch, this feature supports English-language PDFs only._ ### Getting started * **Admins:** There is no admin control for this feature. * **End users:** This feature will be ON by default. Visit the Help Center to learn more about audio overviews for PDFs in Drive, including per user daily usage limits. ### Rollout pace * Rapid Release domains: Available now * Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting November 12, 2025 ### Availability Available for Google Workspace * Business Standard and Plus * Enterprise Standard and Plus Also available to * Google One AI Pro and AI Ultra * Google AI Ultra for Business * Google AI Pro for Education ### Resources * Google Help: Create Content, Images & Audio Overviews with Gemini in Drive

Leverage the power of Gemini models to apply data classification labels in Google Drive - beta applications now open
### What’s changing Earlier this year, we announced a series of changes to AI classification for Google Drive, including a revamped user interface, an on-demand model training process, and support for multiple custom-trained models. Today, we’re excited to share the next step in the product’s evolution: Gemini-based models for data classification, now available in closed beta. This feature leverages Gemini models to apply data classification labels to files in Google Drive. To date, AI classification requires admins to identify and manually label training files for the AI model to learn the types of data associated with each data classification level. With this new capability, Gemini models offers admins another method to set up AI classification by eliminating the need for manual model training, replacing the process with administrator-defined instructions or prompts. Gemini models interpret prompts, evaluate files, and apply appropriate data classification labels based on the provided instructions. For files labeled by Gemini, editors and owners on those files with the appropriate label permissions will have the opportunity to review and accept or modify the automatically applied label. Administrators maintain full control. They select the label, provide instructions via a prompt, and scope the audience whose files are being evaluated. Audit logs capture when files are labeled or any user acceptance or modification of a Gemini-applied label occurs. ### Who’s impacted Admins ### Why it matters Data classification is a critical activity for organizations that are conscious about data protection, compliance, and reporting. However, data classification can also be challenging to put into practice, particularly when it comes to accurately classifying files at scale.  Using AI for data classification aims to address this problem by using a model’s ability to reason to achieve a high degree of data classification accuracy, at scale. ### Rollout pace * Closed Beta - customers must be manually enrolled to begin testing. ### Getting started * **Admins:**   For customers interested in testing, we kindly ask that you share your interest by filling out this form. * **Please note** – during this phase of product validation, enrollment will be limited. Our intent is to gradually onboard customers leading up to an Open Beta. * Ideal closed-beta participants will be organizations with existing data classification programs, who have the capacity to actively test the models and are willing to engage with the Workspace product team to provide direct feedback on their experience. * If you are selected for the Closed Beta, you will receive an email detailing specific onboarding instructions. * **End users:** There is no end user setting for this feature. ### Availability Available to Google Workspace: * Enterprise Plus ### Resources * Closed beta application form

Gemini Deep Research now integrates with your Workspace content
### What’s changing We’re expanding the capabilities of Gemini’s Deep Research feature by integrating it with your Google Workspace apps. This update allows Deep Research to seamlessly gather information from your content in Gmail, Chat, and Drive - including Slides, Sheets and Docs files - in addition to the web, to create a more comprehensive and personalized report. Previously, users had to manually upload individual files from Drive to supplement their Deep Research. This update helps end users, including students, educators and those in small businesses, to do their best work by making research more efficient and context-aware. Your users can now integrate information directly from: * Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, and PDFs in Drive, including non-Google files * Context from emails in Gmail * Information from Chat messages Example use cases for end users: * **Business planning:** Users can ask Deep Research to kickstart analysis for a new product using team documents, build out a competitor report referencing internal strategy memos and communications, or help onboard onto a new project quickly after analyzing documents, emails, and chat history. * **Project catch-up:** Get quickly caught up on an in-progress project by asking, "Catch me up on my <some project you have docs, chats, emails about. e.g., my remodeling project>. What are some decisions I need to make, and for each, can you research potential options". * **Academic research:** Students and faculty can ask Deep Research to review their existing notes and research papers on a topic and combine that with web research to pull together an insightful report that includes insights from their own documents. ### Getting started * **Admins:** Gemini access to Workspace apps is controlled by the “Allow access to Workspace apps” setting. Bringing inline threading to direct messages in Google Chat
### What’s changing We’re excited to announce that inline threading is rolling out for direct messages (DMs) and group direct messages (gDMs) in Google Chat. This has been a highly requested feature, and we're pleased to deliver it as part of our effort to simplify the Chat experience and address top user feedback about conversation consistency. Until now, inline threading was only available in spaces. With this update, you can now reply in-thread to any message in a direct conversation, just as you do in a space. This helps to keep conversations organized, allowing you and your colleagues to follow specific topics and avoid cluttering the main chat stream. ### Getting started * **Admins:** There is no admin control for this feature. * **End users:** There is no end user setting for this feature. This feature will be ON by default as it rolls out. ### Rollout pace * Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on November 5, 2025 * Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on November 19, 2025 ### Availability Available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts ### Resources * Google Help: Use threads in Chat spaces * Google Help: Reply to a message in Google Chat

Set sharing expirations on files and folders in shared drives
### What’s changing We previously introduced the option to set expirations on files that reside in shared drives using the Google Drive API. Today, we are bringing the ability to **set expiring access for files and folders in shared drives directly from the sharing dialog.** This highly-requested feature brings the ease and security of My Drive access controls into your collaborative shared drives. ### File expirations You can now set expirations when sharing files in a shared drive. This lets you add an expiration date right in the sharing dialog for temporary collaborators, ensuring access is automatically revoked and eliminating the need for manual cleanup. --- Add expiration while sharing files in shared drives. ### Folder expirations For shared drive folders, you can now apply an expiration date specifically to the Viewer role. This setting is easily accessible in the folder's sharing dialog, helping you automatically remove read-only access when a collaborator's temporary need is finished. --- Add expiration for Viewer role while sharing folders in shared drives. ### Consistent expiration behavior in My Drive We're standardizing access expiration for files and folders in My Drive. The experience is now consistent with shared drives, making it more predictable for you to know when access will expire. **Old behavior:** If you granted someone temporary **Editor** access to a file inside a parent folder they could only view, they would **lose all access** to the file once their Editor permission expired. **New behavior:** When their temporary **Editor** access expires, their permission will **revert to the access they have on the parent folder** (in this case, Viewer). They will not lose access to the file completely. --- Editor access expires, and reverts to Viewer access (user has Viewer access on the parent folder). ### Getting started * **Admins:** There is no admin control for this feature. * **End users:** This feature will be available by default. Visit the Help Center to learn more about how to manage expiring access in shared drives. You can only set sharing expirations on Web and Android phones. Expirations cannot be set on iOS devices in My Drive or shared drives. ### Rollout pace * Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on November 4, 2025 * Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on November 13, 2025 ### Availability Available to Google Workspace: * Business Starter, Standard, Plus * Enterprise Starter, Standard, Plus * Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Essentials Plus * Education Standard, Plus * Nonprofits * Frontline Starter, Standard, Plus Also available to: * Google One AI Premium * Google AI Pro and Ultra * Gemini Business, Enterprise* *As of January 15, 2025, we’re no longer offering the Gemini Business and Gemini Enterprise add-ons for sale. Updated Chat header helps you navigate chat more quickly and easily
### What’s changing We are introducing a redesigned Google Chat conversation header on the web. The new header offers a simpler, more consistent layout that makes key tools easier to find and use. It includes a side panel where users can access shared content and manage tasks without leaving the conversation view. The panel’s width can be adjusted or expanded to a full-screen view as needed. Specifically, the new header has icons which can be used to: * Select “Shared” to access shared files, links and media. * Select “Tasks” to create and manage space tasks. * Select “Threads” to see and respond to active threads. * Select “Board” to see pinned messages, files and shared links. --- Navigating between Shared, Tasks, Threads, and Board by clicking on header icons --- Side panels can expand into fullscreen with the drag bar ### Getting started * **Admins:** This feature will be on by default. There is no admin control for this feature. * **End users:** This feature will be on by default for users on the web. To use it, look for the icons in the top right of your Chat window. Controls for restricting conversation creation in Google Chat available to more organizations
### What’s changing We are expanding an existing Google Chat feature, previously only available for Education customers, to more Workspace customers. This feature gives administrators the ability to limit who can create new conversations in Google Chat. When this setting is applied to users (through an organizational unit or a Google Group), those users will be prevented from initiating new conversations, or adding new members to existing conversations. Users with this restriction can continue to converse in conversations they are already a member of. ### Why it’s important Similar to how this feature is used for students, it allows organizations to enable Chat for a segment of employees such that they can receive important messages and contribute to existing conversations, while limiting their ability to create new, unmanaged conversations. This helps provide a safer and easier way for organizations to communicate. ### Getting started * **Admins:** This feature will be OFF by default. It can be enabled for specific users by placing them in an Organizational Unit (OU) or a Google Group and applying the setting in the Admin console. * **End users:** There is no end-user setting for this feature. If this policy is applied to your account by your administrator, you will not be able to start new conversations or create spaces, but you can still reply to conversations you are added to. ### Rollout pace * Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains: Full rollout (1–3 days for feature visibility) starting on November 3, 2025 ### Availability * Business Plus * Enterprise Standard and Plus * Business Continuity and Continuity Plus * Frontline Plus and Frontline Standard ### Resources * Google Workspace Admin Help: Set up Chat restrictions * Google Help: Create, send & reply to messages in Google Chat

New to Google Meet: Continue your conversations in Google Chat
### What’s happening? Starting November 10, your Google Meet in-meeting messages will be powered by and available in Google Chat. That means the meaningful feedback that was messaged during the meeting, or key resources and links that were shared are now easily accessible to meeting attendees after the meeting, in a shared Google Chat conversation. This change brings the power of Google Chat to Meet, creating a richer in-meeting messaging experience. Meeting attendees can now respond to messages with emojis, and share images and files directly in Google Meet. Attendees can send pre-reads and other meeting materials to the group ahead of the meeting in Google Chat, and these resources will be available in Google Meet throughout the call. This launch also consolidates all your messaging and conversations into Google Chat, making it easy to find messages or shared files all in one place. This change is designed to improve post-meeting follow-through, leading to increased team productivity, and we’re excited for what this will mean for your teams and their collaboration. ### Getting started #### Admins: * **Availability:** All end users in your org will have this feature on eligible meetings. * **Data retention & DLP: **These messages are stored in a Google Chat conversation, and will respect the retention policies and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) rules you have configured for Google Chat. * **If disabled by host:** If a host turns off continuous meeting chat for a specific meeting, that meeting will use the existing, unlinked in-call messaging. To retain such messages, you must record the meeting. #### End Users: * **Eligible meetings:** This feature is available for meetings scheduled in Google Calendar. It applies to the meeting host and all other invited attendees who are part of the host's domain. * **Host control:** Meeting hosts retain full control and can disable this feature for any meeting. This option must be toggled in the Google Calendar event's video call options before the meeting starts and cannot be changed once the meeting is in progress. * **External attendees:** To ensure security and clarity, external attendees will only have access to the chat during the time they are in the meeting. They will not be able to participate in a conversation before a meeting nor see the conversation history after one. Internal attendees will see clear ‘external’ indicators and banners when guests are present in the conversation. ### Rollout pace * **Rapid Release domains:** Extended rollout (up to 30 days for feature visibility) starting no earlier than November 10th, 2025. * **Scheduled Release domains:** Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting no earlier than Dec 3rd, 2025. ### Availability Available to all Google Workspace business and enterprise customers with the following plans: * Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Essentials Plus * Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus * Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus * Frontline Starter, Frontline Standard, Frontline Plus ### Resources * Google Workspace Admin Help: Retain Google Chat messages with Vault  * Google Help: Learn how to use Chat with Google Meet
