Image is a still from a game of pong on the Atari, a tennis game played with a dial paddle. The aim of the game was to bounce a ball back and forth between your paddle and that of your opponent, and try to score by bouncing the ball off one of the walls in an unpredictable manner. In this way it is more like air hockey than tennis.

There's a bunch of scholars around a pool of wax
a person who was clearly once a scholar of some sort, dressed in archaic robes. They have been covered in molten wax to the point that rivulets of it run down their body. Atop their head is the burning stub of a candle. In its hand it holds a brass candalabra in the shape of a knife or short blade, with two short, lit, candles, on either side of the cross piece.

Played 2 good games of Thunder Road: Vendetta today, a game whose concept I was not too enthusiastic about. A racing game? With cars? And racing? And, okay, armed helicopters.

Turned out my worst curmudgeonly instincts were wrong. Not only was it fun, but I won the second game.
Image shows the board section of the game Thunder Road: Vendetta, a racing game featuring small plastic cars. The cars are clustered in the centre of the board, about to commit to an hour of mayhem. Two small model helictopters can be seen on the right side of the board. Red cardboard triangles represent hidden hazards, like oil slicks, mud patches, and burnt out wrecks. Players roll 4 6-sided dice at the beginning of the round, and on their turn assign a die to one of three cars - a small, medium, or large car. The die result represents how many space the car is able to move along the board. The 4th die can be used to move a few extra squares, drift through obstacles, order the chopper to attack, or remove damage tokens from damaged cars. The game doesn't end when the cars reach the far side of the board. Instead, new board sections are added and play continues until one of the players is removed from play, then the finish line is added to the very end of the board.
