Excerpt from memo sent to AMS board by the program committee: “The final program that came out of the Office (not reviewed and not sanctioned by the PC) has excluded at least 35 to 40 individual proposals (with scores between 3.5 and 4.2) that, under the metrics the PC had used, would and should have been included in the final program, while 90 proposals that scored low (from 2.1 to 3.5) were included in the panels formed by the staff. These numbers are clearly concerning. Given such statistics, it is debatable whether a Program Committee or peer reviewers are even required in the creation of an AMS Annual Meeting program.” Excerpt from memo sent to AMS board by the program committee: “After all this distressing information was revealed, it became clear that the Office had expected that the PC would rubber-stamp the program decisions made by the Office staff. The decisions that went out to our peers on June 6 (acceptances and rejections), cluding the sessions as reflected in the final spreadsheet the Office sent, represent less than 15% of the work that the PC did. In other words, the program for the 2025 AMS annual meeting does not reflect the vision, work, or insight of the program committee.”
