It’s so fun how a few years ago I was all “I’ll start with a modest graphics card when I build my PC and upgrade later. I have a ton of old games to play :)” and ever since then the tech companies have not wanted to sell me a new GPU. On the bright side, I know the games I have aren’t slop!

Every day I get closer and closer to making a Threads account

The trade paperback I checked out from the library earlier this week is still in my car because it’s too big for my little bag. AND it’s a new book so I HAVE to read it soon because it has a shorter loan period.
This isn’t even a hot take because I know people agree with me: trade paperbacks are too big and we NEED mass market paperbacks so we can throw them in a small bag for on-the-go reading

I saw an ad earlier in which someone asked an AI chatbot what to say to a nosy relative’s inevitable questions, and I thought, that’s the sort of thing you brainstorm with your friends about. And they commiserate with you. Talk to them! The world of these AI ads always seems just profoundly lonely.

I think sometimes about AI usage in the workplace and the way some people describe it it sounds like you’re either a) making yourself an underpaid manager of an employee who sucks or b) making yourself your own assistant. Or worse, making someone else do those jobs because you don’t check the output

I have to be honest, trying to write a book using generative AI sounds boring as hell because you have to do all the parts that suck (like editing and managing) but you don’t even get to do the fun part (writing). Why would you offload the fun parts and keep the editing? I don’t WANT to edit.

Still think it would be really funny if people started calling Phil Berger a yankee carpetbagger since he’s a Republican from New York

Important update: New plan is to give this up. Doing this during November has always been ridiculous, and for me especially this year. But I did try out Reedsy, so that’s fun! Might continue with it
great news: this hasn’t happened so far. terrible news: i’m behind on my word count
I'm going to get into trouble and do the Reedsy novel sprint this year. I'm extra excited because you can't copy and paste anything so that means if I do get the urge to write in a notebook or whatever I guess I have to just type it all in the middle of the night or something

I will say this: “Library” is not always the answer to book piracy. Sometimes a library will never get a book, whether that’s because of Amazon restrictions on availability or library pickiness or you’re the only patron who wants it. Sometimes the answer is: You don’t get to read this book right now

@thestorygraph.com I still think this is a good idea that cannot POSSIBLY go wrong
I think StoryGraph should introduce a feature where if someone actively rates a book 3.0 stars and then in their review says “2.5 stars rounded up” because they’re copying their GR (not mass importing) I get to personally edit their review to reflect their actual star rating and add a rude message

this is still happening
Not enough people are haters of the things I want to see haters' thoughts about and too many people are likers of the things I hate

okay bluesky has got to be one of the dumbest social media platforms. everyone go back to tumblr where borzois get inexplicably flagged as potentially mature. it’s also stupid there but we know they aren’t doing it on purpose.
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Hurts to see others living your dream (writing a bad book but other people think it’s good for some reason)

You might think that you eventually grow up and put away childish things but I tell you I spotted the Backstreet Boy IMMEDIATELY. Twelve-year-old girls are eternal.

Anyway now to finish reading the thread
If you go to their website, you'll see the D-level celebrities they've made clothes for, most of them conservative commentators, YouTubers, or professional combat sport athletes (also Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne). I asked Dimitry if these people paid for their clothes. He wouldn't say.

Instead of giving Stranger Things finale a theatrical release, how about just expanding the release of Guillermo del Toro's FRANKENSTEIN? 🥺
