I say this while of course agreeing that the phrase ‘plant-based’ on a food thats primary ingredient is from a plant is, indeed, very confusing!!

Veganism is a lifestyle, while plant-based refers to diet. If I stopped eating animal products but wore leather, I’d be plant-based, not vegan. Veganism avoids all animal exploitation, not just in food. This is why manufacturers often label products as ‘plant-based’ instead of ‘vegan’.
