Yes they are! They are so easy to knit too and are double layered so perfect for in the house. I did make a few modifications to the pattern. Mainly using Jody's magic cast on and do less rounds on the heel and more on the foot.

Those sounds great too! I love hats for gifts too. Haven't done any mitts or cowls. Only knitting my first pair of mittens at the moment and it is so fun!

There are so many options and depends on what you like the feel of and how sensitive you are. Do you have a pattern in mind that you want to knit? It might be easiest to use the recommended yarn if it's available to you. Also, on ravelry.com you can find a huge amount of knitting patterns
