My superpower is refolding things. Bring me your maps, your tents, your fitted sheets. UIC doctoral candidate studying how kids read. Running and bikes: yes. Cars: no thank you. Chicago: ❤️ Union: forever. Cat person.
Thank you for looking into this! I only saw this shared by people outside of Chi and was so skeptical because "West Loop Elementary" isn't a place. Getting details wrong makes people throw out the whole thing. CWLA is indeed right there and they would conceivably have a pick-up line along Congress.

Every time I try to map a ride from Logan Sq to get south Apple and Google maps try to get me to ride on it and every time I think “maybe THIS time it won’t scare the shit out of me,” and then I am WRONG. I go out of my way to do 606 to Elston as long as I’m going south of Chicago.

As a 3rd gd teacher I didn’t know about this! But I did teach a unit at the beginning of the year where we learned what it meant and then students decided if they wanted to say it each morning and what parts. I always had to leave a note for subs to not harass the few kids who decided to opt out.

One kid was so adamant that crying is “just soft yelling” and therefore language and this has stuck with me for over ten years.

I once taught a social science unit to 3rd graders (who all spoke a bunch of different languages) where we tried to answer the q of what language is. We obvs did not come to a definitive conclusion but there was a very lively debate about whether babies crying counted as language.
