Have you ever spent more time getting approval for taking an action than the action itself? Most people have. The “let's make sure” mentality is flawed because things will always go wrong no matter how much you (over)design the process. Guardrails (+ trusting your people) beat processes every time.

Humor and leadership may seem like strange companions but the positive impact leaders' humor has on employees and work outcomes is no laughing matter! Humor is now being conceptualized as a leadership tool for leaders to strategically use to bring about desired employee outcomes. #leadership #humor

As many of us begin to wind down for the festive period, I am thinking of how powerful having radical clarity on the company strategy and team priorities would be moving into 2025. Unfortunately, more often than not, we end up with garbled messaging leading to 'crystal confusion'!

Trust is an espoused value in many companies, but it's more of a vague aspiration than a lived value. The organisational OS neither incentivises nor creates the conditions for people to trust each other (or the company.)

It's hump day, so what else would we need than some explicit manager-led motivational speech? Maybe just being left alone to do our own thing?

In business, in stark contrast to online, I see far too much consensus - or sometimes just passive agreement on an issue just to move on. Having the space to offer an opinion is essential - let's create those conditions #leadership #organisation #culture

Happy Monday! Are you all set for micromanagement again this week? I remember a former boss using the sentence starter: "I'm not going to micromanage you," which gave me a great relief....until he said “but” + a series of things resembling micromanagement. It's all about the "but"...
