Hegseth is about to re-name a military base after George Pickett, the Confederate General whose ill-fated charge at Gettysburg lost 6500 soldiers in one hour. Fun fact: in 1859, he provoked a skirmish with British Marines in the Pacific Northwest. The Pig War produced one casualty….a farmer’s pig.

INVICTUS Games Day1: Amazing opening ceremonies. 1. Standing “O”from 40000 people when Ukraine entered. Their tears were flowing freely. 2. The exchange of heart signals between US and Canada. Extraordinary, given current politics, but not when you remember they’ve fought together for generations.

A lot of Canada’s resource extraction, manufacturing and even retail industries are owned by US corporations. They operate with cheap Canadian dollars and thrive under a fairly negotiated international trade agreement unilaterally shredded by Trump. Will they move south, or are they reacting?
