Only cause that chimp is on her shoulders, without that it would just be a normal sized shadow.

Look on the bright side. He may not be able to hit, but at least his defense has also regressed significantly.

Who could forget that Science Fiction classic Finding Nemo:

Yeah it’s a pretty glaring hole

Yep, not enough people talking about that side of that terrible trade

I’ll refrain from calling the front office that traded their most frequently used LHP (that also leads the bullpen in ERA) for literally the worst hitter in the league in the middle of a playoff push “sellers” and say they aren’t buyers instead. If that will make everyone’s feel better.

lol ok
July 30, 2025 at 9:41 PM
My guy, you jumped in to my mentions to tell me I’m wrong not the other way around. Best I can tell you don’t like me saying that a move that doesn’t help the 2025 Reds make a playoff run is a “sellers move”.

Would it make you feel better if I instead said it wasn’t a “buyers move”?

You’ve also decided to invent for the sake of this discussion a version of Rogers that has a 4 ERA and a version of Hayes that mashes lefty’s despite both of their actual 2025 performance, so not much to work with there except to say hope the Reds make the playoffs anyway.

Just going to have to agree to disagree, because as best I can tell the argument at this point is “this deal is about getting what they can out of expiring contracts and blocked prospects, even if that doesn’t help this years team…but that’s not selling” and I’m not sure what I’m arguing against.
July 30, 2025 at 9:02 PM
As a Reds fan I hope Hayes ends up the best third baseman in the league for the rest of the year, but this is not a win now move.
July 30, 2025 at 8:40 PM
I hope you understand the irony in one of your “sellers move” examples being trading a good reliever already on your team for someone who you control long term and hope works out eventually.
July 30, 2025 at 8:38 PM
Can they? They haven’t. Instead they sold one for a defensive replacement who is the worst qualified hitter in the league in WRC+

When the Reds make another trade that adds pieces who can help this team make a playoff run this year I’ll agree with you that they are buyers
July 30, 2025 at 8:31 PM
If the Reds make a playoff run is it more likely they’ll need another defense first third baseman with an OPS in the .500s or another solid lefty reliever?
July 30, 2025 at 8:26 PM
I don’t understand how adding a guy with a chronic back issue who can’t hit and will (in your example) actually be taking a defensive replacement spot from the slightly better hitting Espinal at the expense of a LHP who has been solid this year could be considered “buying” for this years team.
July 30, 2025 at 8:25 PM
2. And do teams that we consider “buyers” usually do the first one or the second one
July 30, 2025 at 8:21 PM
Let me say it a different way.

1. Is this trade primarily about trading long term potential for a short term boost to help the 2025 team make a playoff run or primarily about getting what they can get out of assets, even if (in the case of Rogers) that asset could help a playoff run.
