Recent budget layoffs help to clean up the school a bit to move some of the bad actors out. I believe the Michigan athletic department needs a similar clean up. Warde needs to be removed. The coverups are hurting many individuals. Sometimes the best way to heal wounds is to let it air out.

Unfortunately, the students and staff had to suffer. We had students bringing weapons, gang violence, bullying of vulnerable students from both students and the principal’s inner circle, staff members outside of the circle getting bullied, and rampant misogyny and homophobia from the inner circle.

Predictably, issues always blew up in their face. We had to go above their head to the district or to our union rep to get help. Nothing worked because the district circled their wagons to protect the principal from their poor leadership.

I think there is a circling the wagon mentality at the athletic department and fear of reprisals from Warde. Makes sense with how things always blow up in the press until something gets leaked. Similarly, I worked for a high school principal who ran our school in a similar manner.

I just thought it was Sparty nonsense. A regent was also rumored to be the one that leaked the results of the independent investigation into former hockey coach Mel Pearson after Warde had the report 6 months earlier and tried to hide it.

I’m hopeful Michigan can be the first college team in state to start a D1 NCAA women’s program. Trustee Denise Illitch is hopeful but Trustee Jordan Ackerman threw some cold water stating that lack of ice space is slowing the process down. I want to be hopeful.
