I'm on my phone so you'll just have to imagine the second one's font in the first one's colors.

About a year ago I wrote "Scholars are Failing the GPT Review Process" in which i warned that pressures of publish or perish coupled with an increased push to accept "generative AI" in the academic milieu would lead to people using "gen AI" to make up research they never actually conducted. So.

Thinking about these words from @anitacameron.bsky.social again. Whatever way you can do it, wherever you can, do it. And lift up everyone doing it however they can, too.

We. Told. You. So. But also, that "May Rely" in the significance section ( 👇🏾 ) is *way* too… let's go with "generous;" lexical associations and statistical priors are what these systems are literally made of, and all that they do. Literally. doi.org/10.1073/pnas...

Couple these results with what we know about what said over-reliance on "AI" does to critical thinking and skills development and maintenance, and what I've repeatedly argued about the impact of "AI" on dis- & misinformation, consensus knowledge-making, & authoritarianism (👇🏾), & well… here we are.

Reminder that these people hate and mistrust each other at a deep deep level, and that can be exploited to important effect when recognized and properly leveraged.

I mean, can you imagine what some of these career Colonels and Generals are thinking, looking at all of this shit? Mm.

A genuinely fucked up part of this is that one of their suggestions is to apply for the thing they just rejected you for, and to do so on the basis of the reason they rejected you.

I mean god damn.

In addition to scraping your uploads for "generative AI" training, Academia dot edu is going to start claiming rights to your personal info— *including your signature & voice*— for anything they see fit.

So now'd be a good time to remove all of your uploaded works, & then delete your whole account.

Vanity Fair and Newsweek of all places have some explainers— tho the latter's article is characteristically far more willing to imply the alleged shooter held leftist ideologies than far-right ones, & of the two only VF's digs into the gaming culture aspect, so I'd say it's definitely the better one

So as of today there's at least guidance, thank fuck. There's still a lot of uncertainty, & CVS & Walgreens don't show avail, but seems these'll likely be the allowable conditions under the current (sourced here www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/...), so mark yourself as appropriate, when making appointments
