Then file that alongside your return when you send the whole thing in.

A lot of schedule c companies do this whether or not they even intend to buy any assets - its just an easy box to check off and then not have to think about.

To make this election, you literally make up a word document, title it “Section 1.263(a)-1(f) de minimis safe harbor election” and include your name, address, taxpayer identification number (SSN/TIN), state that you are making the de minimis safe harbor election under section 1.263(a)-1(f)
September 25, 2025 at 11:44 PM
Unless you make this election, you're technically doing the return incorrectly. If they end up calling you on it....maybe, maybe not. Better safe than sorry.

However, if the asset you purchase is under $2,500, you can make what is referred to as a "De Minimis Safe Harbor Election under 1.263(a)-1(f)", which is basically you telling the gov. "this is too complicated and I dont wanna keep track of the expense over multiple years, so I will expense it rn"

Hey, tax information (not advice) for you specifically:

When you buy a fixed asset (in this case, your tablet), you are meant to recognize the expense over multiple years through depreciation. This is tedious and I never wanna deal with it when preparing tax returns
