When companies lay you off, they don't take your inconvenience into account.

People get laid off 2 weeks after starting.

It's a "business decision."

Nothing personal.

You are the guardian of your career.
Nobody else is fighting for you.

And maybe you can do 1 or 2 things that'll actually help them transition.

Yes, it's an unprofessional situation.
But nobody's gonna hold a grudge.

● Nobody's gossiping on LinkedIn.
● Nobody's sending out a memo.
● Nobody's blacklisting you.

And remember this:

When you make someone's life harder, and you show genuine remorse, it's hard for them to be angry.

Then offer to keep working for them to wrap things up.

Offer to do it for free.

They won't take you up on it.
It'd probably be illegal.
But the offer is nice.

● This other opportunity fell into my lap.
● It's just too perfect for me to ignore.
● I don't think I could turn it down
● But I hate causing this problem for you.
● Do you want me to turn it down?

Show genuine remorse.

Put yourself at their mercy.

● Lots of apologies.
● Show them you feel bad.
● Show them you understand.

Articulate the inconvenience you're creating.

Claim "extraordinary circumstances."

Here are sample talking points
to your boss:

● Yes, you may burn some bridges.
● You might ruffle some feathers.
● It may cause you future pain.

A loss of some opportunity.

But what else is new?

Everything is a tradeoff
between bad and worse.

Just back out humanely:

Worry about growing steadily.

Your next big chance
is just practice.

Don't try to force it.
Take the indirect path.

Whenever I've done this, I've found synchronicities that felt like magic.
December 4, 2024 at 11:42 PM
Every time you think:
"This is my big chance!"

It's not your big chance.

It's practice for an even bigger chance.

The bigger chance will come later, if you keep doing the obvious thing
that makes you more valuable.

Don't worry about "grinding."
December 4, 2024 at 11:42 PM
Remind yourself that:

● You can't control most things.
● Events happen at their own pace.
● Today may not work out in your favor.

And it's all just practice anyway.

The indirect path says...

Today is not special.

My life is big.

The self dunk is not an easy maneuver.

And "who's gonna tell him/her...?"

I've been using Claude to code Google apps scripts for spreadsheets, and it's nuts how much it can do.

I want job seekers to bet on themselves.
And I believe it will change their lives.

We’ve got 9 participants signed up so far.

Know someone who needs this?

Send them this post.
Or sponsor their sprint 🎁.

A gift that ultimately costs nothing other than their determination to see it through.
November 23, 2024 at 1:51 PM
If you’re looking for something meaningful:

I’m running a Mindful Job Search Sprint starting Nov. 26.

It’s a 3-week program that
takes under 20 minutes a day.

✅ Complete it, and it’s FREE.
(You get a full refund).

Why?
November 23, 2024 at 1:51 PM
For anyone who cares
about a job seeker:

Don't just cheer them on.
Show them they’re worth betting on.

Here’s how you can help:

● Send a job posting.
● Make a warm introduction.
● Share a useful free resource.
● Share a useful paid resource.

Or directly sponsor their growth.
November 23, 2024 at 1:51 PM
Bet on yourself.

● Bet on your grit.
● Bet on your resilience.
● Bet on your ability to grow.

Because here's the truth:

Job hunting is a skill that will only get more important as automation reshapes careers.

The time you invest in building this skill now will pay dividends.

Bet on that.

Your confidence slips.
It shows on your face.
And the cycle repeats:

🔄 Rejections →
Lower confidence →
Missed opportunities 🔄

Confidence sells.
Conviction wins.

If you don’t believe in yourself,
you're not inviting people to bet on you.

So, if you’re searching for a job today:
November 23, 2024 at 1:51 PM
Here’s what job seekers often face:

● Being ghosted. No response.
● "Unfortunately…" rejection emails.
● Broken promises for interviews.

This wears you down.
You forget you're worthy.
November 23, 2024 at 1:51 PM
Getting help to think through it
will make you more likely to do it.

And ironically, if you allow someone
to help you make a plan, they're
more likely to follow it too.
November 21, 2024 at 2:26 PM
Now here's another option.
Best of both worlds.

Next time you find yourself telling
someone "Here's what you should do..."

Stop and rephrase.

"Here's what I'd love to try myself. Wanna think it through with me?"
November 21, 2024 at 2:26 PM
If you like an idea, it deserves
to be tested by you.

You deserve to give yourself the space
to test ideas you like.

Test your "cool idea" advice.

That's how you generate
"My Experience" advice.

AKA wisdom.
